Rangers’ hopes of signing Kenny McLean for free this summer ‘now appear scuppered’, with Norwich City preparing a £500,000 offer according to the Scottish Sun.
Rangers are said to have seen a bid of £300,000 turned down earlier this season, and were seemingly ready to wait to land the Aberdeen midfielder for nothing at the end of his contract.
But the report claims Norwich, who loaned defender Russell Martin to Rangers on Tuesday, have watched McLean several times throughout the campaign and plan to sign him immediately, after losing Alex Pritchard to Huddersfield Town.
According to the Scottish Sun, there are several others interested in the 25-year-old, who has indicated a desire to leave Aberdeen this year.
And, if reports of an immient Norwich move are accurate, Derek McInnes’ side must weigh up whether to cash in on the player, which would weaken them in their battle with Rangers to catch Celtic at the top of the Premiership table, or lose him for nothing in six months’ time.
McLean played alongside Norwich talisman James Maddison at Pittodrie last season.
