According to the Sunday Mail (28/06, p71), Rangers have scouted Amiens midfielder Bongani Zungu extensively and been watching videos of him during lockdown.
It’s claimed that Rangers are weighing up a bid for Zungu. However, they have yet to make contact with the French side about a move.
Rangers have allegedly scouted Zungu ahead of a possible bid, which would have had to take place earlier this year as no French games have been played since March.
Additionally, Rangers have taken time to watch video footage of Zungu in action during lockdown; a possible sign that they’re very keen.
Zungu, 27, is a strong and technically-adept player who can play as an anchor man or in a shuttling role, and has an impressive frame at around 6ft tall.
Formerly of Vitoria de Guimaraes in Portugal, Zungu joined Amiens in 2017 and has been a regular in their side, making 24 appearances in all competitions this season.
The South African international only bagged one goal and one assist, but that’s not really his game; he will break up play and protect the back four, which may be valuable for Rangers.
Amiens’ relegation means Zungu could well move on, but with competition from Strasbourg, Rangers won’t find it easy to get him in.
