Glasgow Rangers goalkeeper Robby McCrorie is reportedly close to sealing a loan move away from Ibrox.

According to a report from the Daily Record, Robby McCrorie is expected to leave Rangers for Queen of the South in a six-month loan deal with the goalkeeper working on finalising the switch while Steven Gerrard’s squad were away in Portugal.

McCrorie went into this summer with some Rangers fans backing the 21-year-old to be Allan McGregor’s understudy from next season. It would be little surprise to see Wes Foderingham leave if he is keen to secure first-team football, and Jak Alnwick may be in a similar boat.

But it would perhaps be a safe bet to assume that at least one of the two men will be staying at Ibrox, with the Daily Record reporting that McCrorie is close to securing a loan move to the Scottish Championship side.

The Record reports that the youngster did not travel to the club’s pre-season training camp as he looked to wrap up his switch to Queen of the South, which is set to end in six months.

It looks to be a good move for McCrorie to secure another loan move this summer. McGregor’s form during his first season at Ibrox suggests that he is not going anywhere anytime soon, so leaving on loan could be much more beneficial.

Getting that experience under his belt will certainly help his case when McGregor does step aside in the coming years. Rangers have a lot of depth between the sticks, but McCrorie arguably has the potential to make that position his own for years to come if he is able to secure a chance.
