Rangers were hoping to use a development league game to give some playing time to four first team players who have not played much so far this season.

Unfortunately for them the clash against Hibs was called off mid-way through the match after the assistant referee fell ill with chest pains, and as reported by Daily Record the club were quite annoyed about the decision.

A source from Rangers said: “It was Hibs who stopped the game from continuing. We were happy to carry on and the referee was too.

“It’s annoying for Mark because he wanted to get game time for the four lads.”

The four players in question did start the game in which Rangers led 2-1 at half time, but the club would have preferred for them to get a full 90 minutes.

Assistant referee Scott Love was clearly struggling throughout the game and the decision was made for him to come off, however Rangers were happy to continue with just one official meanwhile Hibs under-20s boss Eddie May refused to continue. Interestingly, May had also previously worked within the Rangers youth department.

Rangers boss Mark Warburton will be hoping that the four players in question, Phillipe Senderos, Rob Kiernan, Matt Crooks and Joe Dodoo will be ready and available for Saturday’s game against Partick Thistle.
