Rangers forward Michael O’Halloran could return to his former club St Johnstone.

The futures of Rangers duo – Andy Halliday and Michael O’Halloran – are in doubt after they were omitted from the Europa League squad to face Progres Niederkorn.

They were left out in the cold along with the likes of Rob Kiernan, Matt Crooks, Harry Forrester and Joe Dodoo for Rangers’ return to European football.

According to reports from the Express, O’Halloran could return to his former club, St Johnstone.

The 26-year-old joined Rangers two years ago, and made 31 appearances in all competitions for the Gers. Last season, he made 13 league appearances but didn’t get his name on the score sheet.

Tommy Wright, the Saints manager, has asked about the winger, whom he sold for £500,000.

“I was sad to see Michael leave,” said Wright, as quoted by the Express. “He is a player we have inquired about but it’s up to Rangers to decide what to do with him.”

Meanwhile, ahead of Rangers’ Europa League clash, boss Pedro Caixinha has included seven of his eight summer signings – Fabio Cardoso, Ryan Jack, Bruno Alves, Carlos Pena, Dalcio, Eduardo Herrera and Alfredo Morelos – in the squad.

The Express adds that Caixinha is still looking to add depth in his squad and remains confident of landing Norwich midfielder Graham Dorrans and Hearts winger Jamie Walker.
