Rangers have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Wigan Athletic duo James Tavernier and Martyn Waghorn.

According to Wigan Today, Rangers have agreed a deal to sign both James Tavernier and Martyn Waghorn from Wigan Athletic.

Rangers made winger Andy Halliday their fourth addition to the first team this summer, adding to the Scot to previous signing Wes Foderingham, Danny Wilson and Rob Kiernan.

Now, new manager Mark Warburton is keen to add even more players to his squad – and he seems to be calling upon his knowledge of the Football League to help him.

The former Brentford boss has been targeting Wigan duo James Tavernier and Martyn Waghorn over the last week, with STV reporting just days ago that Rangers had failed in a bid for Tavernier.

However, Wigan Today suggest that Rangers have now reached an agreement with the Latics to sign the English duo on permanent deals.

What do Rangers fans need to know about their potential new signings?

Starting with Tavernier, the 23-year-old is an athletic full back who can use his pace to get forward and make an impact in the final third.

The former Newcastle youngster would be an ideal addition to the Rangers back line, serving as a replacement for Sebastien Faure and Richard Foster at right back, with Warburton keen to bring in younger defenders with potential.

Waghorn, 25, came up through the ranks at Sunderland but has never really proven himself to be a regular goalscorer during spells with Leicester City or Wigan.

However, Gers fans can expect plenty of hard work from Waghorn, who can run the channels well and offer good movement in and around the box, as well as versatility to play out wide too.
