Steven Gerrard’s Rangers are favourites to sign Bongani Zungu, according to The Daily Record.

It has been reported that Zungu is a Liverpool fan and wants to link up with Reds legend Gerrard at Rangers.

Clubs in Germany are interested in the 27-year-old South Africa international midfielder, but Rangers are favourites to secure his services this summer, according to the report.

The report has also quoted Amiens manager Luka Elsner as saying that the midfielder will not play for his side again.

The Daily Record quotes Elsner as saying: “I have decided to restrict the squad I will work with. So only those whose head is committed to the Amiens project this season will play for me.

“We need only players who are 100 per cent committed to the club and the players who are trying to leave won’t be involved. I want players who give everything in training and pre-season.

“The league starts in less than two weeks’ time and I cannot afford to carry players whose futures are not clear.”

Good signing for Rangers?

Zungu is a very good and experienced midfielder who would be able to make an immediate impact at Rangers.

According to WhoScored, the 27-year-old made 10 starts and 11 substitute appearances in Ligue 1 for Amiens this past season.

Compared to Manchester United star Nemanja Matic by his former Mamelodi Sundowns manager Pitso Mosimane last month in The Daily Record, the South Africa international has what it takes to become a success at Rangers.

Rangers need a strong and competitive squad this season to beat Celtic to the Scottish Premiership title, and the 27-year-old will make the Gers stronger.
