Rangers have made a loan-to-buy bid for Juninho Bacuna but, according to The Sun, Huddersfield Town blocked their approach for the highly rated midfielder.

While the mercurial Curacao international can flit from anonymous to unstoppable in the blink of an eye, new Terriers boss Carlos Corberan clearly sees the player as a key part of his plans at the John Smith’s Stadium.

Bacuna has started every Championship game since Marcelo Bielsa’s protégé took over at the Yorkshire outfit in the summer.

And, according to The Sun, Huddersfield are standing firm as Rangers come calling for a man who, if we are talking about natural ability alone, can aim higher than a club that narrowly escaped a second successive relegation last term.

Steven Gerrard’s Gers have spent the entirety of the window trying, and so far failing, to sign an attack-minded central midfielder capable of easing the goalscoring burden on Alfredo Morelos, Kemar Roofe and co.

Bacuna, a free-kick specialist with an eye for the spectacular, produced six goals and five assists for an often toothless Terriers side in 2019/20.

“He’s a young, hungry player that has already played a lot of football for someone of his age,” former Huddersfield boss David Wagner said after Bacuna arrived from Groningen in 2018.

“He’s an exciting midfielder that offers all the aggression of a defensive midfielder and the technical skills and mobility of an offensive midfielder.”
