Ibrox club Rangers are interested in appointing Alex Neil as their new manager following Steven Gerrard’s departure to Aston Villa, according to The Times.
What’s the story?
The Times are reporting that Neil is a contender for the Rangers managerial job.
The 40-year-old is being considered by the Rangers board to replace Gerrard.
The former Liverpool midfielder has left Rangers for Premier League club Villa.
Could Alex Neil to Rangers happen?
Neil is without a managerial job at the moment following his departure from Preston North End in November 2021.
The 40-year-old has also managed Hamilton Academical and Norwich City in the past.
In fact, under Neil, Norwich actually got promoted to the Premier League from the Championship.

Neil is a very good manager, and he is still only 40.
It would not be a bad idea for Rangers to at least speak to the Scotsman.
Neil knows the Scottish Premiership and is available for a managerial job now, although he recently took an advisory role at Crewe Alexandra, according to The Times.
Interestingly, Neil was reportedly a contender for the Celtic managerial job a while ago.
The Daily Mail reportedly in March 2019 that Celtic were considering the 40-year-old following Brendan Rodgers’s departure to Leicester City.
