Championship outfit Norwich City have told long-serving centre-back Russell Martin he can leave and Scottish Premiership giants Rangers are keen.
Rangers have been heavily linked with a move to bring Steven Naismith back to Ibrox from Norwich City in recent times but it’s another Scotland international who could be set to swap Anglia for Glasgow in the January transfer window.
The Daily Record reports on Friday that experienced centre-back Russell Martin has been told he can leave Norwich after finding himself out of favour under manager Daniel Farke. The 31-year-old hasn’t made a league appearance since the 4-0 thrashing at Millwall at the end of August.
And it is understood that Rangers’ manager Graeme Murty, who previously worked at Norwich as an academy coach, has been alerted to Martin’s availability.
The defender, too, would be open to a return to his homeland, the Daily Record adding that Martin would jump at the chance to sign for one of Scotland’s biggest clubs.
It is unknown how much Rangers would have to pay but, considering his age and the fact he is clearly not in The Canaries’ first-team plans, the Glasgow giants will be hopeful of landing Martin on a cut-price deal.
The 29-cap Scot has spent the last seven years at Carrow Road after arriving from Peterborough United in 2010. In that time, he has made 308 appearances in all competitions and also spent four years in the Premier League, never looking out of place in England’s top flight.
And at 31, Martin still has a lot to offer and the long-serving skipper could have a new lease of life at Rangers.
