Glasgow Rangers defender Russell Martin looks set to hand the Ibrox side an injury boost.

Russell Martin of Rangers hits the post with a header during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Kilmarnock at Ibrox Stadium on March 17, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

According to a report from the Daily Record, Russell Martin is set to be available for Rangers’ Scottish Premiership clash with Motherwell at the end of the month despite withdrawing from Scotland’s squad due to injury.

Martin was included in Alex McLeish’s squad for their upcoming friendlies with Costa Rica and Hungary, but the Record reports that he withdrew from the squad to go and see a specialist in England regarding the back problem that kept him out of the recent Old Firm game.

Rangers manager Graeme Murty is seen during the Ladbrokes Scottish Premiership match between Rangers and Kilmarnock at Ibrox Stadium on March 17, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

However, the news is positive for Graeme Murty with the Record reporting that he is set to be back available when the domestic season resumes after the international break and is set to be ready for the trip to Fir Park.

Boost for Rangers?

It has arguably been a mixed spell for Martin since he arrived at Ibrox on loan during the January transfer window. Initially, his partnership with David Bates looked extremely impressive and looked set to be something that Murty may be able to rely on for the rest of the campaign – if not beyond.

A general view of Ibrox Stadium is seen ahead of the EURO 2016 Qualifier match between Scotland and Georgia at Ibrox Stadium on October 11, 2014 in Glasgow, Scotland.

However, Martin’s form started to dip around the turn of the month before the problem kept him out and Bates had to be stretchered off during the Old Firm game after sustaining a nasty-looking ankle injury.

Martin put in an underwhelming performance alongside Bruno Alves in the defeat to Kilmarnock at the weekend, so it may not be the best injury news that Gers could receive during this break. However, with few options available to the 43-year-old, Murty is likely to be pleased that the Norwich City-owned ace looks set to be fine.
