Glasgow Rangers defender Russell Martin looks set to hand the Ibrox side an injury boost.

Martin was included in Alex McLeish’s squad for their upcoming friendlies with Costa Rica and Hungary, but the Record reports that he withdrew from the squad to go and see a specialist in England regarding the back problem that kept him out of the recent Old Firm game.

Boost for Rangers?
It has arguably been a mixed spell for Martin since he arrived at Ibrox on loan during the January transfer window. Initially, his partnership with David Bates looked extremely impressive and looked set to be something that Murty may be able to rely on for the rest of the campaign – if not beyond.

However, Martin’s form started to dip around the turn of the month before the problem kept him out and Bates had to be stretchered off during the Old Firm game after sustaining a nasty-looking ankle injury.
Martin put in an underwhelming performance alongside Bruno Alves in the defeat to Kilmarnock at the weekend, so it may not be the best injury news that Gers could receive during this break. However, with few options available to the 43-year-old, Murty is likely to be pleased that the Norwich City-owned ace looks set to be fine.
