Glasgow Rangers boss Graeme Murty is under an enormous amount of pressure at Ibrox.

Graeme Murty, Manager of Rangers looks on prior to the Scottish Premier League match between Celtic and Rangers at Celtic Park on April 29, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

According to a report from Sky Sports, Rangers are expected to clarify Graeme Murty’s immediate situation within the next 24 hours as talks continue with Steven Gerrard.

Murty is coming under an enormous amount of pressure. The Gers were thrashed and dismantled in the latest Old Firm clash that handed Celtic the Scottish Premiership title, and the club appear to have been largely silent since the defeat, with no post-match comments emanating from anyone inside the Light Blues camp.

Sky Sports reports that talks with Liverpool legend Gerrard will continue, but it is not clear whether Murty will remain in charge of the side for their next game, which comes at home against Kilmarnock – who also appear to have Rangers’ number this term.

Sky Sports adds that clarification regarding Murty’s immediate future is expected to come in the next day – and it would be little surprise if many of the club’s supporters were urging the Rangers hierarchy to axe the 43-year-old now.

Murty deservedly earned a lot of plaudits for the way that he handled the job when both Mark Warburton and Pedro Caixinha departed, and results certainly improved at the start of his two temporary spells. However, the situation has changed dramatically over the last few months.

Rangers have been woeful in the last two Old Firm games and could end up finishing fourth in the top flight this term. And despite creating a game-plan that frustrated Celtic during his first meetings with the Hoops, the last two fixtures have seen the Gers fall short in every department.

Whether that may be enough to make the Gers board consider ending his tenure before the summer remains to be seen. But the report suggests that a decision could be made imminently.
