According to the Daily Mail, Rangers will put their search for a Director of Football on hold after being snubbed by Ross Wilson – but manager-in-waiting Pedro Caixinha is likely to attend the Old Firm derby against Celtic this weekend.

The Gers saw Mark Warburton and Frank McParland leave the club last month, leading Rangers to implement a new structure featuring a manager and a Director of Football.

Many have questioned Rangers’ decision to go for a Director of Football, but those plans are now on hold according to the Daily Mail after the Gers missed out on their top target.

Southampton’s Ross Wilson has allegedly told Rangers that he will be staying on the South Coast having been offered the Director of Football job at Ibrox, leading Rangers to temporarily abandon their pursuit.

Glasgow-born Wilson, formerly of Falkirk, Huddersfield Town and Watford, has been working as Southampton’s Director of Scouting since 2015, and had been targeted for a return to Scotland.

However, Wilson has been talked into staying at Southampton, and whilst Rangers are now considering ex-Spurs and Southampton man Paul Mitchell, it’s believed that they will now put the search for a Director of Football on the backburner.

For now, Rangers will focus their attention on appointing a new manager, with Al-Gharafa boss Pedro Caixinha seemingly on the verge of being named as the new Rangers boss.

The 46-year-old will allegedly be confirmed as the next Gers manager before Sunday’s Old Firm clash with Celtic, but Caixinha won’t take charge of the team, instead leaving interim boss Graeme Murty in charge.

Caixinha – a former Celtic scout – is likely to be in attendance at Celtic Park as he prepares to take over from Warburton.
