Glasgow Rangers are reportedly set to receive a six-figure fee one year after Martyn Waghorn left Ibrox.

According to a report from the Daily Record, Rangers are in line to receive around £800,000 should former Gers striker Martyn Waghorn end up joining Derby County in an £8 million deal this summer.

Waghorn left the Light Blues a year ago for just £250,000 in what was one of arguably a handful of questionable sales given the green light by Pedro Caixinha during the Portuguese’s brief tenure at Ibrox.

The Record reports that he is now nearing an £8 million move to Pride Park during this window and has handed in a transfer request at Ipswich Town to try and force through the deal – and Rangers are reportedly set to benefit from the move.

The Record adds that the Gers included a 10 percent sell-on clause in the deal that saw him swap Ibrox for Portman Road, perhaps meaning that Steven Gerrard’s transfer budget may be about to receive a six-figure boost ahead of the final weeks of the summer.

It must be said that there was not unanimous uproar when Waghorn initially left the club, but it does appear that it may have been a mistake to have sell him for such a small amount as his record in Scotland was impressive.

And with Gerrard currently lacking striker options ahead of his first season at the helm, he may perhaps be allowing himself to wish that he had Waghorn in his current ranks – though he may be extremely grateful for the potential cash boost his next move may generate.
