Report: Rangers could give up on Jake Cooper, Curtis Tilt not a priority

Rangers could give up on their pursuit to bring Jake Cooper to Ibrox.

According to The Sunday Mail (p68, 22/07), Rangers look set to give up on their bid for Millwall defender Jake Cooper having failed with a £3million offer.

The Gers completed their 10^th signing of the summer today, with Liverpool winger Ryan Kent arriving to reunite with Steven Gerrard to boost the Ibrox ranks.

Kent has followed Allan McGregor, Jon Flanagan, Connor Goldson, Nikola Katic, Ovie Ejaria, Scott Arfield, Lassana Coulibaly, Jamie Murphy and Umar Sadiq to Glasgow, but Rangers’ transfer plans aren’t ending there.

Another defender has been on Gerrard’s wish list given that Bruno Alves has gone and Fabio Cardoso is unwanted, and Rangers have been pursuing Millwall defender Jake Cooper, with a £3million bid rejected this week.

Now, The Sunday Mail (p68, 22/07) report that Rangers are now unlikely to return with a new bid and may well give up on their pursuit of the 6ft 4in centre back, with Millwall unwilling to budge.

That leaves Rangers looking for another centre back target, and it’s noted that Gerrard is keeping tabs on Blackpool centre back Curtis Tilt as a potential alternative.

However, it’s also noted that Tilt isn’t a priority target for Rangers right now, and other centre backs may actually be above him on Gerrard’s wish list ahead of the new league season.

Money appears to be there for Gerrard to spend if he wants to, but finding the right target will be key for Rangers, with the pursuit of Cooper seemingly coming to an end.
