Glasgow Rangers defender James Tavernier could reportedly be allowed to leave Ibrox this summer.

According to a report from the Daily Mail’s live transfer blog (18/06; 14:29), Rangers could consider selling James Tavernier for just £3 million as the Gers right-back continues to attract attention from Swansea this summer.

The Daily Record reported earlier this month that new Rangers boss Steven Gerrard wanted to keep the 26-year-old amid rumours linking him with a potential move to Crystal Palace.

However, the Mail’s live transfer blog (18/06; 14:29) is now reporting that the Gers would be looking for around £3 million as they look to get together the kind of funds that will allow Gerrard to continue his overhaul of the current squad.

While there have been concerns about Tavernier defensively at times, there is no question that he is comfortably the best right-back in the Gers squad and a very strong argument could be made that he is the best in his position across the entire Scottish Premiership.

Replacing him would be an extremely tough task for Gerrard, not only due to his ability, especially when it comes to getting forward, but also due to the leadership qualities that he possesses. He captained the Gers during a difficult period for much of last season, and his goal against Hibernian on the final day of the campaign was the perfect example of the skipper taking charge of a situation.

But perhaps Gerrard feels that, while he would seemingly prefer to keep Tavernier this summer, leaving the door open for a potential deal to be done may be a smart idea in case an interested side makes a tempting bid.
