Rangers are facing up to the reality of losing wonderkid Billy Gilmour to Chelsea, despite a last ditch attempt at persuading him to stay.

A £600,000 fee has been agreed to sell him when he turns 16, rather than risk losing him for £90,000 compensation if they leave it to chance, the Express report, with their only hope being a last minute change of heart from the teenager.

Even though they are set to lose Gilmour, The Express reports that Rangers are considering asking Chelsea if they can have him back on loan.

The report adds that no loan agreement is written into the terms of sale, but it is an avenue the Gers are keen to explore.

Being on the verge of such a decision to relocate, Gilmour may be reticent to delay his switch down south to continue at Rangers if his heart is really not in it.

Rangers would want to get the best out of him while they could, but their commitment to getting him playing time may not be quite as focused as it would be if he stayed permanently.

Moving to Chelsea will be tough for Gilmour, with the Blues having arguably the most expansive youth set up in England.

The Blues will likely want to work with Gilmour first hand before making a decision, and a loan move at some stage will probably be on the agenda.
