Glasgow Rangers are reportedly closing in on a deal to bring exciting youngster Ovie Ejaria to Ibrox in the coming days.

According to a report from The Sun, Rangers are closing in on their first signing since Steven Gerrard officially began his role at Ibrox with Liverpool youngster Ovie Ejaria set to be signed within the next week.

After weeks of excitement, Gerrard is now in the hot-seat with the Gers and appears to be in the mood to waste absolutely no time to add to the signings that were made before his first official day with the Scottish Premiership giants.

Steven Gerrard is unveiled as the new manager of Rangers football Club at Ibrox Stadium on May 4, 2018 in Glasgow, Scotland.

According to The Sun, Gerrard is close to agreeing a deal with the Reds to sign Ejaria. The report does not suggest whether the deal is for a loan move or a permanent one, but does state that talks are set to reach a conclusion this coming week.

Ejaria is a bright talent who should add further competition to Gerrard’s options in the middle of the park. The 20-year-old spent the second-half of last season on loan with Sunderland. And despite the Black Cats falling into League One, the Liverpool prospect was often one of their more exciting options during his time at the Stadium of Light.

He was often a player that could frustrate the supporters when he was unable to back up some of his impressive runs with end product, but there are arguably few better people to bring the best out of him than Gerrard and Gary McAllister. Both men were obviously seriously gifted when it came to using the ball, so they could perhaps be the ideal pair to help Ejaria realise his potential.

And Rangers fans will be hoping that Ejaria is not the only player to make the move to Ibrox from Anfield this summer, with The Sun suggesting that Gerrard is awaiting Jurgen Klopp’s decision on the immediate futures of Harry Wilson and Ryan Kent with both youngsters also on the Gers boss’ summer wishlist.
