Rangers are reportedly close to luring Steven Davis back to Ibrox full time.

Steven Davis of Rangers arrives prior to the Ladbrokes Premiership match between Livingston and Rangers at Tony Macaroni Arena on January 27, 2019 in Livingston, United Kingdom.

According to The Scottish Sun, Rangers are set to secure a deal to bring midfielder Steven Davis to Ibrox on a permanent basis.

The Gers decided to re-sign Davis on loan from Southampton in January, almost seven years since the midfielder ended his first spell at Ibrox.

Davis, 34, had struggled for playing time with Southampton, and decided to head back to Rangers in search of first-team football, though it’s taken a while to come.

The Northern Irish international was off the pace and disappointing at first, but has now really hit his stride again, turning in a number of impressive displays in the Rangers midfield of late.

Now, The Scottish Sun report that Rangers’ talks over a permanent deal are at an advanced stage with Davis, and a move is on the verge of completion.

Davis’s Southampton contract expires this summer, meaning he’ll head to Ibrox permanently on a free transfer, and become Rangers’ third signing of the summer transfer window before it’s even begun.

Wingers Jordan Jones and Jake Hastie have signed pre-contract agreements from Kilmarnock and Motherwell respectively, with the latter only being announced on Wednesday.

Moving quickly to land Davis too would be another signal of intent from Rangers, who have really seen Davis emerge as the controlling midfielder Steven Gerrard has been looking for in recent week.
