Rangers are reportedly set to bring Filip Helander to Ibrox.

According to Aftonbladet in Sweden, Rangers are poised to complete the signing of Bologna defender Filip Helander in a deal worth around 50 million Swedish Krona – around £4.25million.

The Gers have already added seven signings this summer, with George Edmundson, Joe Aribo, Steven Davis, Jake Hastie, Greg Stewart, Jordan Jones and Sheyi Ojo arriving at Ibrox.

Despite adding young defender Edmundson, Gerrard has remained keen on another centre back, this time one with a little more experience – and he appears to have found one.

It’s claimed that Bologna ace Helander will be heading to Ibrox, with ‘only some formalities’ keeping a deal from being completed.

This is a hugely impressive move from Rangers. Helander is 26, a great age to come in as he’s well-developed already, but still has some potential to be tapped into.

Standing at 6ft 4in tall, Helander is a dominant centre back, and he’ll bring added balance to the Rangers defence given that he is predominantly left-footed.

Helander has made almost 200 career appearances across spells with Malmo, Hellas Verona and Bologna, whilst he’s also picked up 10 caps for Sweden on the international stage.

The £4.25million fee is a considerable outlay for Rangers but a major addition, and will provide ideal competition alongside Edmundson, Connor Goldson and Nikola Katic.
