Rangers are reportedly close to bringing defender Connor Goldson to Ibrox.
According to The Mirror (01:52am), Rangers are set to tie up a £3million deal for Brighton and Hove Albion defender Connor Goldson, with a £20,000-a-week contract to be offered.
The Gers have started their summer transfer business early by signing experienced duo Allan McGregor and Scott Arfield on pre-contract agreements, but more deals are needed this summer.
With a real lack of numbers and quality in the heart of the Rangers defence, centre backs have been targeted by the Gers, with Steven Gerrard launching a move for Brighton’s Connor Goldson.
Rangers have already had two bids rejected for Goldson, but The Mirror (01:52am) report that a £3million deal is now close as the Gers show they are prepared to back Gerrard with considerable funds.
It’s claimed that Goldson will be handed a £20,000-a-week contract with Rangers as they attempt to push a deal through before Gerrard officially starts work as Gers boss on Friday.
Goldson, 25, came up through the ranks with hometown club Shrewsbury before leaving for Brighton in 2015, making 26 appearances for the Seagulls in his first season on the South Coast.
Goldson’s career took a bizarre turn in 2017 as he was found to have a heart defect, resulting in preventative surgery which kept him on the sidelines for 10 months.
Brighton already have a solid centre back pairing in Shane Duffy and Lewis Dunk, and with Nigerian international Leon Balogun snapped up last week, it may now be the right time for Goldson to move on as a switch to Glasgow appears to be close.
