Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will have his Ibrox commitment tested again.

According to The Telegraph, Rangers manager Steven Gerrard is wanted by Newcastle United in a surprise move by Mike Ashley.
The Gers only handed Gerrard his first managerial job last year, but a decent first season in charge at Ibrox has seen his reputation soar.
Earlier this week, Gerrard told The Scottish Sun that he was fully committed to Rangers amid interest from Derby County, but may quickly have that stance tested again.
It’s believed that Gerrard is one of the main names on Ashley’s shortlist to replace Rafael Benitez, after Newcastle announced that he’ll be leaving the club when his contract expires on Sunday.
Ironically, Gerrard would be replacing the man he played for at Liverpool, but let’s be honest here; a move to St James’ Park appears unlikely.
Gerrard has just committed his future to the Gers, and he appears driven by the challenge of restoring Rangers to their former glories, firstly by attempting to take down Celtic.

Newcastle is far from a secure job for a young manager like Gerrard. Ashley failed to back Benitez suitably, and Gerrard will have that in mind having seen the way Benitez was treated, meaning he’d be mad to trade Rangers for Newcastle right now.
With an off-field spat between Ashley and Rangers chairman Dave King, the Gers would loathe to even hear from Ashley and co near mind give them Gerrard, so we’re classing this one as an unlikely move – even if Newcastle do want Gerrard.
