Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has decided to stay at Ibrox.
According to The Times, Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has rejected an approach from Derby County, and will stay at Ibrox for the foreseeable future.
Derby are set to lose boss Frank Lampard to Chelsea, and are starting to look for potential replacements, with Lampard’s former England teammate Gerrard on their wish list.
However, it’s believed that Gerrard has rejected their approach, and intends to stay at Ibrox for some time yet having signed a four-year deal with Rangers last summer.
That leaves Derby looking for alternative targets, but will delight Rangers fans as Gerrard appears to be in the job for the long haul rather than simply seeking a quick return to England.
It’s also noted that Gerrard is hoping to get three more signings on board before heading off to Portugal this weekend, having already signed Steven Davis, Jordan Jones, Jake Hastie and Greg Stewart.
Sheyi Ojo, George Edmundson and Joe Aribo are wanted at Ibrox, whilst Rangers may face a little wait to bring Liverpool winger Ryan Kent back to the club on loan.
This is all hugely positive news for Rangers fans. Not only is Gerrard committing his future to the club, but he’s also being backed with the signings to try and take down Celtic.
Landing defensive cover in Edmundson and talented, creative players in Aribo and Ojo would really boost Rangers, and Gerrard will be expecting further backing having snubbed a return to England.
