A reported Rangers and West Ham United target intends to see out his contract at Sheffield United, according to The Sun on Sunday (6 September, page 61).
The Star reported last month that the Blades midfielder, John Lundstram, is attracting interest from both Steven Gerrard’s Rangers and David Moyes’ West Ham, as well as Brighton & Hove Albion.
Lundstram is in the final year of his contract at Sheffield United, but has yet to accept the club’s offer of a new one.
And he will continue to avoid doing so in an attempt to ‘maximise his chances of a bumper personal deal’ next summer, according to The Sun on Sunday.
With no transfer fee to worry about, it is possible that clubs such as Rangers and West Ham would be willing to offer the Liverpudlian – whose role model, incidentally, is Gerrard – more in wages than they may be now.
Lundstram’s alleged plan could backfire, however, if he loses his place at Sheffield United and sees his stock decrease as a result.
The Blades have been linked with a number of players, including John Swift (Reading) and Matty Cash (now of Aston Villa), who can operate in Lundstram’s usual role of central midfield.
Gerrard has already expressed a desire to strengthen Rangers in that particular part of the pitch, while West Ham could have money to spend after selling Grady Diangana to West Bromwich Albion.
