Glasgow Rangers had reportedly hoped to bring the youngster to Ibrox this summer.

Rangers had seemingly been hoping to utilise Steven Gerrard’s knowledge once again during the summer, with The Sun on Sunday (17/2; page 61) reporting that the Gers had their eye on signing Adam Lewis from Liverpool.
The Sun on Sunday (17/2; page 61) reports that Rangers were looking to complete a bargain move for the 19-year-old who was set to be out of contract at the end of the season. Meanwhile, Newcastle United were also reportedly interested in signing Lewis.
However, The Sun on Sunday (17/2; page 61) reports that the teenager has agreed a new four-year deal at Anfield and he is set to be promoted to become Andy Robertson’s understudy on Merseyside from next season.
Lewis would have an incredibly exciting signing for either Rangers or Newcastle given that he is clearly highly thought of at his current club. The length of his new deal is telling, as is the fact that he was included in the squad that Jurgen Klopp took to Marbella this month.

For Newcastle, it does appear to be a real blow as they look to strengthen their options in that area of the pitch in the long-term. Paul Dummett has been reliable and consistent, but Rafa Benitez has had no natural options in that role when the Wales international has been missing.
Antonio Barreca has arrived on loan until the summer, but it is unclear whether the Magpies will look to keep him beyond the end of this season.

Rangers meanwhile, have Borna Barisic as their first-choice left-back. The Croatian has struggled with injury at times, but clearly has the potential to be a fantastic signing.
Andy Halliday has also been a revelation under Gerrard. And players such as Lee Wallace and ex-Reds ace Jon Flanagan are also available to the Gers.
It would have been interesting to know what the plans would have been for the likes of Flanagan had Rangers managed to convince Lewis to head to Ibrox instead of signing a new Liverpool contract. It would have surely meant the end of Wallace’s Gers career.
