Fulham and Newcastle United target Danilho Doekhi wants to leave Vitesse Arnhem this summer with De Gelderlander reporting Rangers will offer the defender a three-year contract at Ibrox.
That shock cup exit to St Johnstone aside, Steven Gerrard’s Gers have been near faultless throughout 2020/21. And, while Alfredo Morelos, Ryan Kent and co have played a major role in the club’s first Premiership crown in a decade, Rangers’ success has been built on a rock-solid back line.
In 35 matches, the Glasgow giants have conceded just 12 league goals, with Filip Helander, Connor Goldson and Leon Balogun shining.
Don’t forget about Jack Simpson or Nikola Katic either.
Doekhi, then, would hardly be guaranteed a place in Gerrard’s starting XI if he sealed a summer switch from the Eredivisie to Ibrox.
De Gelderlander reports Rangers are keen to sign the Rotterdam-born, Dutch U21 international on a three-year deal.
Doekhi has little more than 12 months remaining on his current contract.
And, with Fulham and Newcastle interested too, the former Ajax starlet has made up his mind. This will be his last season at the GelreDome.
The nephew of former Chelsea and Barcelona player Winston Bogarde, Doekhi has blossomed into one of the Eredivisie’s finest central defenders this term, taking his game to a new level in Vitesse coach Thomas Letsch’s three-man back line.
“Danilho is one of the best defenders in the league,” Letsch said.
