According to The Chronicle, Steven Gerrard’s Rangers, Celtic and Newcastle United are interested in signing Thomas Robert in the summer transfer window.

Robert is available on a free transfer this summer, with the right-winger’s contract at Montpellier running out in a few weeks’ time.

Rangers and Neil Lennon’s Celtic in the Scottish Premiership want to sign the 19-year-old winger, and so do Newcastle in the Premier League, according to the report.

It has been added that as the teenager’s father Laurent Robert played for the Magpies, he wants his son to turn out for the Premier League club and is currently pushing for him to move to St. James’ Park.

Laurent Robert is currently working as a youth coach at Montpellier, according to the report, which adds that Newcastle have already looked at his son as a potential transfer target.

Advantage Newcastle United?

It is clear that Newcastle reportedly have the advantage over Rangers and Celtic in the race for Robert.

The winger is only 19 years of age, and he will take some time to get used to the pace of the Premier League and to establish himself in the first team at the Magpies.

Football in England is suspended at the moment due to the global health crisis, while Ligue 1 has been called off, and it is not clear when the summer transfer window will open.
