Glasgow Rangers are reportedly hoping to bring Jordan Jones to Ibrox in January, but face Premier League competition for his signature.

Rangers are still keen on signing Jordan Jones as his contract runs down, but may have to spend a seven-figure fee if they hope to get a deal done, according to a report from the Sunday People (09/12; page 52).

Jones is one of the most exciting players in the Scottish Premiership outside of those currently plying their trade for one of the Old Firm sides. And his contract situation has alerted the Gers as well as one club in the Premier League.

According to the Sunday People (09/12; page 52), Rangers are set to battle it out with Burnley in the race to sign the Kilmarnock winger, but the Clarets are hoping to seize the initiative.

The report suggests that Sean Dyche’s men are planning a £1 million bid in January when Jones will be into the final six months of his deal at Rugby Park.

It is not clear whether Rangers will be willing to match Burnley’s offer, but it would not be a surprise if the Ibrox faithful were divided over what Steven Gerrard’s next move should be.

Despite the Northern Ireland international’s obvious talent, he is yet to score or provide an assist in the top flight this season. And given that he could be available for free in the summer if he remains at Killie until then, spending £1 million on him may seem a little unnecessary to some supporters.

However, given his quality, perhaps there will be some who believe that paying the seven-figure amount for the 24-year-old could prove to be a bargain and worth the risk in January with a Premier League side lurking.
