Rangers have reportedly abandoned their interest in Rashid Sumaila.
Rashid Sumaila in training with Ghana
According to Ghana Soccernet, Rangers have completely ended their pursuit of centre back Rashid Sumaila – which is no huge surprise after the club signed Fabio Cardoso.
The Gers made it eight summer signings last week, with Mexican internationals Carlos Pena and Eduardo Herrera joining Cardoso, Bruno Alves, Ryan Jack, Daniel Candeias, Dalcio and Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox.

Manager Pedro Caixinha has worked hard to bring in new signings this summer, and two of those additions – Candeias and Herrera – have worked with Caixinha previously, at Nacional and Santos Laguna respectively.
Caixinha did seemingly want to reunite with another of his former players though, as Ghana Soccernet report that Rangers were keen on Ghanaian defender Rashid Sumaila – but the move has been completely abandoned.

Sumaila, 24, joined Caixinha at Al Gharafa in a loan move from Al-Qadsia, and the Rangers boss may have wanted to work with him again at Ibrox – but it’s suggested that complications in trying to land the Ghana international have ultimately led to the Gers abandoning their pursuit.
Whilst Sumaila may be one of Caixinha’s most trusted players, but it’s no great surprise to see Rangers give up signing him having already landed Cardoso from Vitoria Setubal this summer.

The Portuguese centre back is seen as the younger, more athletic partner for veteran Bruno Alves, which is the role that may have been earmarked for Sumaila had they managed to sign him.
With Danny Wilson and David Bates – as well as the unwanted Rob Kiernan – at Caixinha’s disposal as well, another centre back may not be on the Portuguese boss’ mind right now.
