Southampton are reportedly keen on Ralph Hasenhuttl.
According to The Telegraph, Ralph Hasenhuttl has emerged as the top target for Southampton – and they also want RB Leipzig’s Paul Mitchell back at the club.
The Saints drew 2-2 with Manchester United on Saturday evening having led 2-0, and that proved to be Mark Hughes’ final game in charge, as he was sacked earlier today.
Southampton will have Kelvin Davis in charge for Wednesday’s clash with Tottenham, but the club are seeking a swift appointment ahead of the busy Christmas period.
Now, The Telegraph report that Southampton’s top target is Hasenhuttl, who has been out of work since leaving RB Leipzig at the end of last season.
The Austrian, 51, became a star manager in Germany with Unterhaching, Aalen and Ingolstadt before taking the Leipzig job in 2016, where he won almost 50% of his games.
Hasenhuttl surprisingly left Leipzig at the end of last season and is looking to get back into work, with Southampton fans surely giddy about the prospect of landing such an exciting manager who plays attractive football.
The report adds another layer to the interest in Hasenhuttl though, as he has worked with RB Leipzig’s Head of Recruitment Paul Mitchell – and Southampton want him back as their new technical director.
Mitchell worked in recruitment for Southampton before following Mauricio Pochettino to Tottenham in 2014, and he could now be in line for a shock return to the club alongside Hasenhuttl in an exciting double move.
