Newly appointed Manchester United coach Ralf Rangnick is eager to bring reported Manchester City target Erling Haaland to Old Trafford in 2022.
According to Sport Bild journalist Christian Falk, the German manager will attempt to sign the 21-year-old attacker next year. Rangnick reportedly helped RB Salzburg sign Haaland, with the new United boss also a friend of the striker’s father, agent and former City player Alf-Inge Haaland.
With Haaland reportedly having a €75m (£63m) release clause that activates in January, the race to sign the Norwegian attacker will be one of the fiercest in some time. The striker is already one of the best in his position in the world, and his qualities make him a prized asset for many clubs.
As of now, though, City have been touted as the favourites for Haaland. After all, the striker grew up as a fan of the Manchester club. And given Pep Guardiola’s need for a natural attacker, the Borussia Dortmund forward is a perfect signing for the Premier League giants.
However, United’s interest in Haaland, who the Sun recently labelled as ‘a monster’, could complicate matters for City given the stature of the Red Devils and the ambition they are trying to reach under Rangnick.
The German coach was brought in to rejuvenate the club. And given Rangnick’s record with Hoffenheim and the Red Bull network of clubs, United have the perfect man to dig them out of this hole, which could spell trouble for City.
City can’t allow United to win Haaland race
Haaland has been linked with City for well over 12 months, and to lose out on the 21-year-old attacker to their Manchester rivals, who have no real need for a striker, would be nothing short of disastrous.
Indeed, Haaland is the perfect attacker for what City need. And having United beat them to the punch would throw some serious doubt onto the club’s transfer committee, who fans are banking on delivering the Bundesliga star in 2022.
