According to The Scottish Sun, new AC Milan boss Ralf Rangnick wants to bring Celtic’s Kristoffer Ajer to the San Siro this summer.

Rangnick is not only becoming boss, but may also be their sporting director, giving the German huge power with the Italian giants.

It’s claimed that Rangnick wants a centre back, and thinks that the £40million price tag on RB Leipzig defender Dayot Upamecano – a player he knows from the Red Bull setup – is too expensive.

That means Rangnick is now looking to Ajer as a potential alternative. He would come at around half the price, with Celtic seeking around £20million.

That’s a huge profit on the player signed in 2016. Ajer, landed from IK Start, was bought for just £650,000 as Ronny Deila’s final signing as Celtic boss.

Ajer was signed as a box-to-box midfielder at the time, but has since become an impressive centre back thanks to his huge 6ft 6in frame.

The Norwegian is quick, strong, comfortable on the ball and at 22 he has huge potential. That’s something Rangnick will be keen to tap into, having focused on developing youngsters at Red Bull Salzburg and RB Leipzig.

Celtic are in no rush to sell, but Ajer has recently switched agent, and the chance to play for Milan at the San Siro may be very tempting to the youngster.
