According to the Daily Star, Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez wants face-to-face talks with Mike Ashley over Salomon Rondon.

Benitez is desperate to bring Rondon to Newcastle on a permanent basis, but Ashley is believed to be more reluctant.

Rondon has enjoyed a great season at St. James’ Park, after signing on loan from West Bromwich Albion, but he is now 29-years-old.

Newcastle tend to like to sign players with some re-sale value, and Rondon’s age stands against him.

West Bromwich Albion are said to want £16 million for the target-man (Northern Echo), and Newcastle are unlikely to recoup that sort of fee if they do sign Rondon.

Benitez is still convinced that Rondon would be a good signing though, and now wants an opportunity to persuade Ashley.

Rondon has scored 11 goals for Newcastle this season, with Ayoze Perez the only player at St. James’ Park to have scored more often.
