Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez wanted to spend big in the transfer window.

According to a report in the Telegraph, Rafael Benitez is set to be told that he needs to lower his demands at Newcastle United.
Benitez is hoping to have a £100 million to spending the summer transfer window, to make the renovations he feels are necessary at St. James’ Park.
But Newcastle owner Mike Ashley is loathed to spend so much on Magpies’ first season back in the top flight.

Ashley is keen not to overspend, and will offer Benitez a more modest transfer budget.
While Newcastle realise that they need to strengthen, there is a reluctance too spend heavily at the first opportunity.
Instead, Benitez will be told that he will be granted funds to spend over a long-term period, with Newcastle aiming to sustain their Premier League status again.

Whether Benitez will be satisfied with Ashley’s offer remains to be seen.
The Spanish boss is yet to commit his future to Newcastle, but is understood to be keen to stay on Tyneside, if a compromise can be met.
