Newcastle United midfielder Jonjo Shelvey could miss the rest of the season with injury.

According to a report in the Daily Mail, Rafael Benitez is seriously concerned about Jonjo Shelvey’s fitness now.

Newcastle midfielder Shelvey has struggled with a thigh injury throughout the season, which has hampered his form.

Shelvey came off the bench at the weekend against Blackburn Rovers, but after the match the injury caused him complications again.

And Benitez is now fearful that Shelvey could be forced to miss the entirety of the season with the problem.

Shelvey is now set to travel to Barcelona this week to see a specialist, as Newcastle search for a cure to his problems.

If midfielder is out for the rest of the campaign it would be a major blow.

Shelvey may not have been at his best this term, but he is widely regarded as Newcastle’s best passer in midfield, and finding a replacement would be extremely difficult.
