According to the Chronicle, Rafael Benitez is now desperate to bring in full-back cover at Newcastle United in January.

Newcastle are winless over the Premier League season so far, and plans are already being made for the next transfer window.

Benitez is not yet sure of what kind of budget he will be provided with by Mike Ashley in the new year.

However, the Spanish boss is already making plans over additions he could make.

Rafael Benitez blows his whistle during the Newcastle United Training Session at The Newcastle United Training Centre on October 11, 2018, in Newcastle, England.

And Newcastle’s top priority is said to be to bring in more cover at full-back.

Newcastle have Paul Dummett and DeAndre Yedlin as their starting left-back and right-back, but beyond that Benitez’s options are desperately short.

Javier Manquillo doesn’t look up to scratch, while Achraf Lazaar has been out in the cold for too long to come back and make an impact.

Benitez is now said to be desperate to sign a full-back, but whether he will be allowed to do so in January remains to be seen.
