Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez appears to be eyeing up a number of new signings in the January transfer window.

According to a report in the Chronicle, Rafael Benitez has asked Newcastle United’s scouting team for a list of five possible targets in every position ahead of the January transfer window.

Benitez appears to be hoping he has funds to spend in January, as he looks to build on Newcastle’s solid start to the Premier League season.

The Magpies are currently sat in mid-table after winning three of their first seven matches back in the top tier.

Benitez is keen to add further quality to his Newcastle squad though, and wants options in every position.

Newcastle did not invest as much money as expected in the summer transfer window, and there are still areas of their squad where Benitez wants strengthening.

The Magpies have a relatively thin squad, and it seems that Benitez is eyeing up adding depth to his current options at the next available opportunity.

How much money Newcastle will have to spend in January remains to be seen, especially as takeover talk is currently rife.
