Newcastle United’s hopes of signing Miguel Almiron are dwindling.

According to The Chronicle, Newcastle United boss Rafael Benitez isn’t expecting the club to complete any big deals this month.
The Magpies beat Blackburn Rovers 4-2 in their FA Cup replay on Tuesday night, but they needed extra time to do it after squandering a 2-0 lead at Ewood Park.
Newcastle at least escaped that potential banana skin, and it’s now on to a big game against Cardiff City at St James’ Park this weekend.
Boss Benitez may have hoped to have new signings on board by now, but yet again it seems like Newcastle are heading towards the latter stages of the transfer window scrambling for deals.
It was that way last year, as Martin Dubravka, Kenedy and Islam Slimani all arrived late in January, and The Chronicle claim Benitez is ‘losing confidence’ in the club securing big deals this month.
Benitez wanted to get Miguel Almiron signed up from Atlanta United, and recruitment chief Steve Nickson jetted out to the States in a bid to get the playmaker’s signature secured.

However, it’s noted that Newcastle haven’t even improved on their bid from last month, which got nowhere near their £25million valuation, meaning a deal doesn’t look likely.
With his top target now fading away, Benitez has dwindling confidence in getting big signings on board, and it may be bargain basement or loan signings once again, much to the frustration of Benitez and Newcastle fans.
