Leeds United signed Rafa Mujica during the summer transfer window, but he may already be on the move.

According to a report from El Periodico Extremadura, Rafa Mujica is closing in on sealing a loan move with the Leeds striker set to join Extremadura UD in Spain.

Mujica was a somewhat intriguing addition to the Whites’ squad during the summer, with the club confirming on their official website that the 20-year-old had signed a three-year deal at Elland Road after leaving Barcelona B.

The youngster did feature for Marcelo Bielsa’s side in pre-season, but it was noted by a number of fans that he was not involved in the under-23s’ opening game of the campaign on Monday. And it appears that the reason for his absence has become clear.

El Periodico Extremadura reports that Mujica is close to agreeing a loan move to the Spanish second division side with only the finer details of the deal still to be agreed.

It looks to be a good move for Mujica, who spent last season playing in the division below. He scored seven times in 33 games, so it will be a fantastic opportunity for the starlet to prove that he can step his game up a level.

There are a number of players that Mujica would have been battling with just to play for Carlos Corberan’s under-23s this year, with the likes of Ryan Edmondson and Kun Temenuzhkov also looking to push first-team pair Patrick Bamford and Eddie Nketiah.

Mujica is going to have to work hard to impress enough that his form does stand out. It could be easy to become a forgotten man while he is away from Thorp Arch, so it would really help his cause to enjoy a prolific year in front of goal.

Plenty of players have left Leeds on loan in recent times and subsequently gone on to leave permanently without making an impact for the first-team. Some may have their concerns with the club loaning Mujica out so soon after his arrival, but the striker will be determined to prove that this potential spell sees him move one step closer to breaking into Bielsa’s plans.
