Newcastle United have already made three impressive signings this summer.

According to a report from the Chronicle, Newcastle boss Rafa Benitez wants to bring a striker into the club before the club head to Portugal for their pre-season training camp next week.

The Spaniard has already brought three new faces to St James’ Park this summer – Kennedy on loan from Chelsea, Ki Sung-yueng from Swansea City and Martin Dubravka from Sparta Prague, but he will be desperate to add further firepower to his front-line.

The Magpies finished in 10th spot in the Premier League table last season, and if they are to make real progress this time around, Rafa quite simply must strengthen his centre-forward department.

The Chronicle spoke to the Newcastle boss yesterday, and he responded when asked whether he expects to bring a new striker into the club before they head out to Portugal for the pre-season tour next week:

“Hopefully. We hope to have somebody and we will continue working and trying to do the best for the squad.”

Newcastle have been linked with plenty of strikers already this summer.

One of the Magpies’ key targets is thought to be West Brom’s Salomon Rondon, with the Chronicle reporting that they have already had a loan bid rejected for the Venezuelan.

Rafa is obviously keen to bring an established hitman into St James’ Park before Newcastle’s first game in Portugal against Porto on July 28th, but exactly who that will be remains to be seen.
