Report: Rafa Benitez retains Newcastle board’s support despite poor form

Newcastle United now find themselves in the bottom three in the Premier League, but Rafa Benitez is reportedly in no danger.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Rafa Benitez does not need to worry about his own future at Newcastle as he still has the backing of the board despite their poor recent form.

The Magpies go into this weekend’s clash with West Ham in the relegation zone in the top flight, having lost eight of their last nine games in the Premier League, and having won just once since beating Stoke at St James’ Park in mid-September.

While the board have received the most criticism from the fans, there has also been some frustration directed Benitez’s way in recent times as the side that comfortably secured automatic-promotion last season looks in danger of falling back into the Championship within one year.

However, the Mirror reports that Benitez is currently in no danger of being dismissed by Newcastle with the current owners knowing that the Spaniard’s presence sees the club’s value go up significantly, while the group trying to buy the club also want to keep the former Liverpool and Chelsea man in the role once they have completed their takeover.

Although Benitez seems to have lost some support amongst a section of the fans, it would surely be a mistake for the club to consider getting rid of him at any stage in the near future as few managers, who are currently available or would be realistically approachable, would be able to get more of the team.

And with the January transfer window looking to be an absolutely vital one for the Magpies, it appears that the hierarchy know that they should find it a lot easier to land marquee targets if they have Benitez at the helm given his stature in the game.
