Newcastle United endured a frustrating transfer window, but Rafa Benitez, who has been linked with West Ham United, does not plan to walk away.

According to a report from the Daily Mirror, Rafa Benitez currently has no plans to walk away from Newcastle this summer despite the Magpies enduring an incredibly frustrating summer window.
Newcastle went into the summer seemingly with a level of optimism that had not been there for a number of years, but that optimism evaporated very quickly with the Mirror reporting that the club failed to land a number of Benitez’s targets ahead of their return to the Premier League.

And while the Mirror suggests that Benitez’s relationship with some of the Newcastle hierarchy is strained and that West Ham are interested in the Spaniard if they decide to make a change at the London Stadium, the report also suggests that the former Liverpool boss has no plans to leave St James’ Park.
The Mirror adds that Benitez feels that he owes the supporters who seemed to play a major part in tempting him to stay on Tyneside following their relegation back in 2016, and therefore wants to carry on with the project.

The news will undoubtedly provide Magpies fans with a huge boost as it could well be argued that if any manager can make the best out of the current situation, it is Benitez, especially as he already knows the squad.
The very early signs certainly suggest that there may well be enough within the squad to ensure that they can keep themselves at the top table for another season.
Newcastle put up a strong fight against last season’s title contenders Tottenham, only conceding the deciding goals once they had been reduced to 10 men, and of course, emphatically dispatched West Ham in their final game before the international break.
And with three very winnable games ahead upon the resumption of the season – the Magpies face Swansea, Stoke and Brighton – the news that Benitez plans to stay put will surely boost their chances of swiftly adding to their points tally.
