Quique Sanchez Flores is interested in succeeding Rafa Benitez at Newcastle United this summer.
According to a report from The Sun, Quique Sanchez Flores is interested in taking the Newcastle job after leaving Shanghai Shenhua last week, and the Magpies board are considering the Spaniard as they look for Rafa Benitez’s successor.
Newcastle fans are still coming to terms with the news that Benitez has left St James’ Park and has since taken a job in the Chinese Super League. And the club are taking their time to find his successor.
One of the managers that Benitez would have briefly been expecting to come up against in China was Sanchez Flores. However, two days after Benitez’s arrival, the former Watford boss left his post – and is now eyeing up the chance to take the Newcastle hot-seat.
The Sun reports that Sanchez Flores is interested in heading to Tyneside and the Magpies hierarchy are considering him for the post along with several other names.
Sanchez Flores’ previous stint in England was fairly brief, but was arguably long enough to highlight that the 54-year-old has the potential to be a success in the Premier League.
He took Watford to the FA Cup semi-final and registered a 13th place finish in the top flight in their first year back at the highest level. At this stage, Newcastle fans may not be too disappointed with that kind of campaign in the coming year given the current uncertainty.
