Newcastle United, Aston Villa and Sunderland have all been linked with Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin

According to a report in the London Evening Standard, Queens Park Rangers striker Charlie Austin will not join a Premier League relegation struggler in January.

The Standard have reported Aston Villa’s, Newcastle United’s and Sunderland’s interest in Austin of late, but all three look set to be disappointed if they do go for the forward when the transfer window re-opens.

Austin is not prepared to join a new club unless they look certain to stay in the top-flight, as he does not want to play Championship football again.

The 26-year-old is apparently happy to wait at QPR until the end of the season and then assess his situation once the campaign comes to a close.

Austin can anticipate a rush for his signature in the summer, as he has scored goals so frequently in the last two seasons.

Austin slammed in 18 goals in the Premier League last term, and he has seven goals in 12 appearances to date this year.

If he does stay at QPR, it will be a big boost for the Championship side as they look to bounce back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.
