The Magpies striker moved to fellow Championship side Barnsley instead.
Adam Armstrong
Queens Park Rangers made an unsuccessful attempt to sign Newcastle United’s Adam Armstrong before the close of the summer transfer window, reports West London Sport.
Armstrong gained a host of admirers having scored 20 goals on loan to Coventry City last season, before the race for his signature was eventually won by Championship newcomers Barnsley on Tuesday.

But, according to West London Sport, it was not a case of Armstrong snubbing the R’s in favour of a move to Oakwell.
Instead, it is Newcastle who are said to have blocked Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s advances, having deemed his side a rival in their quest for promotion this season.
Despite their contrasting budgets – the Magpies boosted by parachute payments and mass player sales this summer – the pair are currently neck in neck in the Championship’s play-off positions.
Moussa Sissoko left Newcastle for Tottenham in a deal worth a reported £30m
West London Sport reports that QPR also failed to reach an agreement with young Paris Saint-Germain forward Roli Pereira on deadline day, while the London side are said to have turned down a ‘seven-figure’ approach from Ipswich Town for striker Conor Washington (Green ‘Un 24).
