Bolton Wanderers looked to be favourites to sign West Ham United midfielder Josh Cullen but QPR appear to be attempting to scupper the deal.

Josh Cullen would not have to travel far if the latest club to express an interest win the race for his signature.

Get West London report that the 21-year-old midfielder could swap West Ham for their London rivals Queens Park Rangers this summer.

And it could be a deal that benefits all parties. The report adds that Cullen, who has only played once in the Premier League, is surplus to requirements at West Ham despite being one of the most talented players to emerge through their renowned academy for many a year.

Yet Cullen would surely benefit from more regular first-team football in the development stage of his career. The Republic of Ireland Under-21 international impressed during a second campaign loan at Bradford City last season, making 40 appearances to help The Bantams reach the League One play-off final, but a move to QPR would mean he could test himself at a higher level.

And Ian Holloway’s side, who finished just two points above the drop zone last season, would gain a talented and dynamic young midfielder with plenty of potential.

This would be a major blow for Championship rivals Bolton Wanderers, however. Bolton News reported last week that manager Phil Parkinson, who brought Cullen to Bradford initially in 2015, had targeted a reunion at the Macron Stadium.

With doubts surrounding the future of influential, out-of-contract midfielder Jay Spearing, the addition of Cullen would have given Bolton some room for manoeuvre.

However, it now appears that QPR are likely to compete for a potentially astute signing.
