Lynch (L) is a reported Hoops target
Queens Park Rangers are stepping up their pursuit of Huddersfield Town defender Joel Lynch, a report in Friday’s Sun newspaper (page 63) claims.
According to the Huddersfield Examiner, the R’s had a bid for Lynch turned down a week ago, but the Sun reports they have since returned with a fresh offer which exceeds the £1 million mark.
QPR boss Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink worked with the centre-back at Nottingham Forest and is keen for him to replace Clint Hill, it seems, who has signed for Glasgow Rangers upon his release from Loftus Road.
Hasselbaink was a coach at Lynch’s former club, Forest
Lynch, who arrived at the John Smith’s Stadium four years ago, played 40 times for the Terriers in last season’s Championship, but has 12 months to run on his contract there.
And Sussex-born Lynch may fancy a return to the south of England, seven years after leaving Brighton & Hove Albion for Forest.
The Sun reports that David Wagner’s side, who’ve already signed centre-back Michael Hefele and handed a new deal to Lynch’s defensive partner Mark Hudson this summer, are eyeing 1860 Munich’s Christopher Schindler as the 28-year-old’s replacement.
QPR finished 12th in last season’s Championship, seven spots above the Terriers.
