Queens Park Rangers failed with a deadline day bid for Aston Villa defender Tommy Elphick, according to the Sunday People (05/02, page 48).
Elphick began the campaign as Villa captain, having arrived from Bournemouth in a £3 million deal. However, the 29-year-old has only featured in eight of a possible 18 matches under new Villans boss Steve Bruce.

And though QPR boss Ian Holloway was reportedly keen to take Elphick off Villa’s hands, his move is said to have been blocked by Bruce’s failure to secure a replacement.

Elphick was recalled for Villa’s trip to Nottingham Forest on Saturday, but could not prevent a second straight defeat for the Birmingham side.
