Charlie Kelman was left out of Southend United’s squad on Tuesday night with Queens Park Rangers and Swansea City targeting the highly-rated striker, as reported by Echo News.
There is a reason why one of the Football League’s brightest talents is nicknamed ‘Young Wazza’.
Stocky and strong yet deceptively quick and blessed with the ability to produce something out of nothing, Kelman channeled his inner Rooney with a goal that has to be seen to be believed on his Southend debut back in January 2019.
Picking up the ball inside his own half, the little-known teenager fired a laser-guided 60-yard rocket into the Plymouth Argyle net.
Scoring from your own half on your senior debut – talk about making a good first impression.
Kelman has been on the radar of many a scout since then and, according to West London Sport, Championship duo QPR and Swansea are keen to tie him down before the transfer window shuts on October 16.
And, according to Echo News, the ongoing speculation was the reason why Kelman was absent from Southend’s EFL Cup clash with Portsmouth this week.

“Charlie has been ticking over and training today,” said manager Mark Molesley. “(His future is) out of my control and his control too.
“We will see what the rest of the week brings but as far as I’m concerned he’s a Southend player and I look forward to having him around for training on Thursday and Friday.”
WLS claims that QPR are in talks to sign the USA youth international and are hoping to complete a deal within days.
Interestingly, Kelman told HITC in an exclusive interview last year that he dreamt of putting his wits against Rooney himself before the former England captain hangs up his boots.
With ‘Wazza’ now pulling the strings at Derby, Kelman’s dream could be about to become a reality.
