Queens Park Rangers face a battle to hang on to highly rated playmaker Ilias Chair, with The Athletic reporting Premier League returnees Watford are one of many suitors.

Almost 12 months ago, QPR were forced to bid farewell to one of the most talented young attackers in the Championship.

And, after Ebere Eze made the step up look straightforward during a superb debut season at Crystal Palace, there’s a chance Chair could join his former Loftus Road teammate in the big time.

The Athletic reports newly promoted Watford are interested in the diminutive 23-year-old.

Antwerp-born Chair also has admirers back home in Belgium, at Vincent Kompany’s Anderlecht and Jupiler League leaders Club Brugge.

Serie A duo Genoa and Bologna are interested too, with the report suggesting Chair could be ready to climb the footballing ladder following four years in west London.

The Morocco U21 international, who took over the number ten shirt from Eze last summer, only signed a new contract that runs until 2025 in January.

But with QPR destined for yet another season of Championship football, the club may be forced to consider offers for a player who, with eight goals and five assists, has grown into a talismanic figure in Mark Warburton’s side.

Should QPR lose Chair and bid farewell to loanees Stefan Johansen and Charlie Austin, the 2021/22 season could be a struggle in west London.
